Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you Welcome in first episode of the episodes in which we meet with achievers from UTM university in Johor state in Malaysia Our guest today is a person with many achievements especially in scientific research and discoveries in Bio-science and Biotechnology Assalamualaikum, How are you Dr? Walaikumussalam, you are welcome Today with Dr Wahid Altwaity He is a Yemeni srudent who completed his PhD at UTM He has many accomplishments in scientific research If we go to Google scholar and write the name of the researcher the papers that have been published by the researcher will appear and the papers that he contributed to such as this scientific paper which talks about a selective membrane that detects the nitrate which is an environmental pollutant and many papers like this one which explained about a tube made of nano technology for removing nitrite which an environmental pollutant too and the greatest achievement that he has done is his discovery of 11 types of bacteria that concentrate in the soil that contains As and these types of bacteria have been called WS which refers to his name Wahid these bacteria have been registered in NCBI National center for biotechnology information in US If we write the name of the researcher in search box the registered types of bacteria will appear as you see in the screen with their various numbers the beginning (the discoveries) first of all, welcome Dr in this episode can you please tell the viewers and all of us about these scientific researches and their content? actually, my study journey was like this, bachelor in Biochemistry and then master in biotechnology and finally PhD in bio-science particularly in biosensors and Metagenomic and Genetics my PhD journey started in 2015 and I am speaking about the last phase which PhD because there is no sufficient time to talk about all my academic phases as I said I started my PhD in 2015 when I came to this university UTM and I am talking now from the lab I worked in which belongs to Dr. Shafinaz this first idea was to recognize the minerals and valuable items using the recent technology – Biosensors – Alhamdulillah my study was in one of the gold companies in Malaysia and it is Selinsing Gold Mine in Pahang state Alhamdulillah I was able to make an achievement I was able to discover a new type of bacteria named later WS which was registered in NCBI in the United States WS has 11 types and W stands for Wahid -my name- and S for Shafinaz -my supervisor- and alhamdulillah we have made some experiments on this bacteria these experiments have proved that it has a big capability in removing As element which contributes to the environmental pollution and it is considered as a toxic element this research has been published in one of the global journals Q1 and as Osama said my study was not only in bioscience as I had some contributions in Electrical Faculty we combined between Electrical and chemical sciences we were able to invent a selective membrane which has proved its capability in detecting Phosphate particles and it has been published in on of journals IIIA Also I has a contribution in Mechanical engineering faculty we have worked in advanced membrane alhamdulillah we were able to develop a carbon nanotube in which we added silicon and amin to this compound and it was considered as a novelty in this field and it has the ability to remove the nitrate which is produced by the fertilizers and the insecticide the research was published in a global journal Environmental science and pollutant research How could these discoveries affect the society? Ok, How could these researches influence on the society or the environment? In fact, the main concept for our lab work was fighting the disease before it reaches people so we are trying to eliminate the pollution from the environment fighting the reasons of the disease in the environment before it harms human and then they need to be healed so instead of waiting for the disease to reach people, we eliminate the disease’s factors from the environment therefore we maintain the life and the health of people what helped you to achieve these discoveries? what are the factors that helped you to get these achievements? in fact, as I talked earlier the person cannot live this life alone and cannot achieve anything alone many doctors in this university have played a big role Yemeni doctors who were staff in the university so my advice for every student to avoid working alone you have to ask a lot even though they are from different backgrounds as the concept of knowledge is one so try to connect with the people who have experience and with the senior students and ask them for consultancy so that they could help in the foundations of correct scientific research in the correct way of writing scientific papers all of these help the student to walk in the correct path and not to lose as I said the person maybe has transferred from an environment in which the scientific research has no much attention compared to Malaysia so the student could lose in finding the correct path of the scientific research hence when student connect with the lectures or those who have achievements or the senior students they will help him a lot in the correct scientific research and how to write scientific papers so the student will take advantage of his time wisely many supervisors help as well so don’t work alone and try to work in a team as I have worked in various departments like electrical and mechanical many of these achievements were made by the help of many researchers whether they were Malaysians, Arabs or Yemenis conclusion at the end, Dr Wahid has loved the scientific research and discoveries and he has seeked for all of the available opportunities and has worked hard to reach the final result and has resorted to the researchers and the supervisors around him Until he was able to obtain his achievements and discoveries at the end so HAVE PASSION, EFFORTS AND AMBITION See you in the next episode
