So a lot of people ask me: "Prince, climate change is such a big issue and what can little old me do about it?" Well, one of my favorite quotes comes from the Dr. Seuss story "The Lorax": "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better." Well here are four things that someone like you can do to fight climate change. Number 1) Offset! See, I travel a lot. A whole lot. I drive an electric car, but I also fly planes, I take taxis, buses and so on. Behavior in my daily life leaves a carbon footprint. I offset that footprint by going to standfortrees.org and keeping a tree standing. See, when trees are cut down, the carbon dioxide that was stored inside of that tree is released into the atmosphere. But when you stand for trees, you not only protect endangered forests from being cut down but also from releasing that Co2 Keeping the tree standing is one of the most effective things an individual can do to help fight deforestation and also fight climate change. Number 2) Calculate your carbon footprint. How much do you drive? Do you buy your food locally? Do you have a vegan diet? Did you know that the food that you eat can either help fight climate change or take contribute to climate change. You can go to ecologicalfootprint.com and there's a calculator that will allow you to see the impact that your everyday behaviors are having on the planet. I mean, how can you be a part of the solution if you are not aware of your own personal impact? Number 3) Vote with your feet! On April 29th 2017 The People's Climate Movement will be hosting a march in Washington DC along with sister marches all over the world to take a stand for environmental justice. So come out and join the movement because there's tremendous power and strength in solidarity. Number 4) Hold your leaders accountable! We forget sometimes that people own the government. The Government does not own the people. We must unify and take action now to support the Paris agreement to ensure that the United States maintains its commitment to combat climate change. And there you have it! Four things that someone like you can do to combat climate change. All of the links for how you can take part in the activities are in the description box below. Peace!
